Our German-Ukrainian youth exchange project:
During an exchange around the 72h Campaign "Heaven Sent You!" in May 2019, young people from Berlin and Kyiv planted the outdoor area of the Berlin City Mission and started talking about sustainability. Out of this encounter a wonderful partnership grew between the two countries.
A joint encounter project "Green City, Green World" was launched!
In this project, between 2019 and 2022, German and Ukrainian young people dealt with sustainable development - specifically in Kyiv, Odessa, Lviv, Berlin and Stralsund, and also globally across borders. They explored the question of how, taking into account limited resources, a life worth living for everyone is possible - now and in the future - and what our own options for action are.
A trip to Kyiv to our partner organization Agents of Change was also planned as part of the project. Unfortunately, this trip had to be canceled in 2021 due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, we met online and exchanged views on "green" initiatives in our two countries.
In the spring of 2022, Russia launched a war on Ukraine, due to which our trip could not take place again. Many people, including young people from our project, had to flee Ukraine. To show solidarity and to welcome people around us to Berlin, we organized a Ukrainian-German friendship picnic and a Ukrainian-German encounter day in the summer of 2022.
